Daily reading of the Psalms

For private devotions

Although this table of daily Psalms was designed for the Monastic, it is available for all to use and should be used in everyone’s daily life.

This is designed to read through the Psalms once completely every thirty days. On day 31 of any given month just read day 30 again. If the month has less than 30 days, skip the rest and begin again on day 1 on the first day of every month. These readings are divided up between morning and evening readings.

There are two tables to read from, it is important to know which table to choose and this is determined by the Bible that you are reading. Open your Bible to Psalm 50, if it begins with the words: The Lord, God of gods, has spoken and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Or words that say the same thing except maybe worded differently than you are reading from a Bible that is based on the Hebrew Old Testament numbering and you will read from Table I.

If you are reading Psalm 50 and it begins with these words: Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity. Or words that say the same thing except maybe worded differently than you are reading from a Bible that is based on the Greek or Septuagint numbering system and will therefore read from Table II. In each table there are the Psalm readings for special days.

You should also know that there is another table for reading the Scriptures completely through in one year, this is a program that all should be active in, there are also programs for two and three year readings for those with limited time in the works. If you are not Monastic and find this table of the Psalms to be too aggressive than do not fear, they are also included in the whole scripture plan divided through the complete year with the rest of the scripture reading.
